Today’s readings confront us with the danger of comfort that blinds us to the poor. Amos cries out against complacency. The Psalm reminds us that God is not neutral—He defends the oppressed, the hungry, the widow, and the orphan. Saint Paul urges us to run the race with perseverance. And Jesus gives us the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, warning us that the chasm we dig with our excuses will one day be fixed and uncrossable.
“Mercy that costs is the only bridge strong enough to cross the chasm.”

The disciples stood amazed at Jesus’ miracles, yet when He spoke of the Cross, they fell silent: afraid to ask, afraid to stay. We often do the same, clinging to God’s blessings while shrinking from His harder words. Today’s homily reminds us: miracles inspire, but it is the Cross that saves. God’s promise is not the absence of trial but His presence within it: “I will be the wall of fire around her, and the glory in her midst” (Zech 2:9). Will we stay when His words cut deep?
Listen as Fr. Korey LaVergne preaches from Saint Edward Catholic Church, calling us to remain close to Christ, even in suffering, because His fire will guard us and His glory will dwell within us.

Friday: 25th Week in Ordinary Time – September 26, 2025Saint Edward Catholic Church
Have you ever found yourself tongue-tied when asked about your faith? In today’s homily, Fr. Korey LaVergne reflects on Haggai’s promise that God remains with His people even when the Temple looks like rubble, and on Peter’s bold confession: “You are the Christ of God.” To confess Christ means also to share in His Cross, and yet it is precisely there that true hope is found. At the altar, our “I believe” is not just words—it is a pledge of courage, faith, and resurrection hope.Preached by Rev. Korey LaVergne at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Richard, LA.

On Thursday of the 25th Week in Ordinary Time (September 25, 2025), Fr. Korey LaVergne preaches from Haggai 1:1–8 and Luke 9:7–9. The prophet urges Israel: “Consider your ways.” Their paneled homes stood finished while the Lord’s house remained in ruins, and their neglect left the whole community unsatisfied. In the Gospel, Herod is curious about Jesus but unwilling to repent. Curiosity without conversion starves the soul, but holy desire fills it. When our faith says one thing but our lives show another, our witness collapses. Ezra weeps over Israel’s ruins, yet finds hope in God’s mercy. In today’s Gospel, Jesus strips the Twelve of every false security so that their very lives could proclaim the Kingdom.
Forgiven people are sent people. The Eucharist restores us, strengthens us, and sends us forth. Not just with words, but with credible witness. Where in your life does Christ need to rebuild His temple? And where is He sending you this week?

“Are you even listening to me?” We’ve all heard the question. Listening without acting erodes trust and the same is true in our relationship with God. Today’s readings show us that worship is incomplete until it flows into obedience. Jesus says true family resemblance to Him is not found in bloodline or heritage, but in this: “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
At the altar, the Lord rebuilds His Temple in us. Communion makes us kin. Padre Pio lived this to the core: long hours at Mass, countless confessions, tireless obedience to the Word made flesh. The challenge for us: don’t just hear today’s Gospel. Act on it.

Today’s readings stir us out of spiritual complacency. Just as God moved King Cyrus to rebuild His Temple, so He moves in our own lives: “Everyone whom God inspired prepared to go up.” Faith is never self-generated. It begins with grace. Jesus reminds us that a lamp isn’t meant to stay hidden; the light of discipleship belongs on the stand of the Church.
In this homily, Fr. Korey challenges us to return and rekindle: to let the Lord’s spark catch fire again in small, concrete ways. Because only then can obedience, repentance, and communion with the poor stand firm on a solid foundation. “The Lord has done marvels for us. We are glad indeed.”

Sunday Sep 21, 2025
On this Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (September 21, 2025), Fr. Korey LaVergne preaches from Saint Edward Catholic Church on Luke 16:1–13.Jesus tells the parable of the dishonest steward: not to praise dishonesty, but to wake us up to foresight. If the children of this world labor so hard for a fading future, how much more should the children of light prepare for eternity?
Prophet Amos calls out injustice: “Never will I forget a thing they have done.” Saint Paul urges prayer for all, because God wills everyone to be saved. Together, the Word exposes our rival masters: money, status, or comfort. But Christ demands our whole heart.
“The Eucharist is the greatest stewardship, and He will not share it with a divided heart. What are you rushing toward that is greater than Jesus?”
Listen, reflect, and let your choices show who your true Master is.
Preached at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Richard, Louisiana.

September 20, 2025 | Memorial of the Korean Martyrs
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that His Word is living seed: full of power, eager to grow, but whether it flourishes depends on the soil of our hearts. Are we the path, the rocks, the thorns, or the rich soil? Saint Paul urges us to persevere “without stain or reproach,” and the Korean Martyrs show us what that looks like in practice: hearts rooted in Christ, unshaken even by torture and death. Their blood became seed for the flourishing Church in Korea.
As the Sower King scatters His Word today, we have to ask: what kind of soil will we be?

Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time – September 19, 2025"Contentment Is a Safeguard"
“If I just had a little more, then I’d finally be set.” We’ve all thought it. Yet Saint Paul reminds us: “Religion with contentment is a great gain.” The Gospel shows us women like Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna who didn’t cling to “more” but poured out their resources for Christ. Contentment safeguards the soul: it frees us from endless striving and re-centers us on what really matters—Jesus Himself.
Preached by Rev. Korey R. LaVergne, Pastor of Saint Edward Catholic Church in Richard, Louisiana.
